Boil Water Advisory Issued for Louisa County Water Authority in Louisa County
Issued November 19, 2024

The Virginia Department of Health and Blue Ridge Health District in conjunction with the Louisa County Water Authority Waterworks are advising residents served by the Louisa County Water Authority Northeast Creek System in Louisa County VA., to use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes as a safety precaution until further notice. This precaution is necessary due to repair activities at the water storage tank resulting in a loss of pressure in the water distribution system for about 1.5 hours on November 19, 2024. Pressure was restored in the water system around noon on November 19, 2024.

DO NOT DRINK TAP WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST

Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, beverage and food preparation, and making ice throughout Louisa County Water Authority Northeast Creek System until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Boiling is the preferred method to ensure that the tap water is safe to drink.  Bring all tap water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one (1) minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water.

If you cannot boil your tap water:

• An alternative method of purification for residents that do not have gas or electricity available is to use liquid household bleach to disinfect water. The bleach product should be recently purchased, free of additives and scents, and should contain a hypochlorite solution of at least 5.25%. Public health officials recommend adding 8 drops of bleach (about ¼ teaspoon) to each gallon of water. The water should be stirred and allowed to stand for at least 30 minutes before use.
• Water purification tablets may also be used by following the manufacturer’s instructions.
• Drinking water may be available at other locations outside your community or neighborhood. If you seek water for human consumption at other locations, you must be certain that it is safe for use.

We will inform you when you no longer need to boil your water. Pressure has been restored in the water system, however bacteriological sampling is required to verify water quality prior to lifting the boil water advisory. We expect to have results from the bacteriological sampling within 48 hours.

El Departamento de Salud de Virginia y el Distrito de Salud de Blue Ridge, junto con las plantas depuradoras de agua de Louisa County Water Authority, están aconsejando a los residentes de Louisa County Water Authority Northeast Creek System en Condado de Louisa, VA., que usen agua del grifo hervida o agua embotellada para beber y cocinar como precaución de seguridad hasta nuevo aviso. Esta precaución es necesaria debido a las actividades de reparación en el tanque de almacenamiento de agua que resultaron en una pérdida de presión en el sistema de distribución de agua durante aproximadamente 1.5 horas el 19 de noviembre de 2024. La presión se restableció en el sistema de agua alrededor del mediodía del 19 de noviembre de 2024.

NO BEBA AGUA DEL GRIFO SIN HERVIRLA PRIMERO.

Para beber, preparar bebidas y alimentos y hacer hielo, se debe hervir agua o utilizar agua embotellada en Louisa County Water Authority Northeast Creek System hasta nuevo aviso. La ebullición mata las bacterias y otros organismos en el agua. La ebullición es el método preferido para asegurar que el agua del grifo sea segura para beber.  Lleve toda el agua del grifo a ebullición, deje que hierva durante un (1) minuto y deje que se enfríe antes de usarla, o use agua embotellada.

 Si no puede hervir el agua del grifo:

• Un método alternativo de purificación para los residentes que no tienen gas o electricidad disponible es usar lejía líquida para desinfectar el agua. El producto de lejía debe ser comprado recientemente, no debe tener aditivos ni aromas, y debe contener una solución de hipoclorito de al menos el 5,25%. Los funcionarios de salud pública recomiendan agregar 8 gotas de lejía (aproximadamente ¼ cucharadita) a cada galón de agua. Debe agitar el agua y dejarla reposar durante, al menos, 30 minutos antes de usarla.
• También se pueden usar las tabletas de purificación de agua, siguiendo las instrucciones del fabricante.
• El agua potable puede estar disponible en otros lugares fuera de su comunidad o vecindario. Si busca agua para el consumo humano en otros lugares, debe asegurarse de que sea seguro consumirla.

Le informaremos cuando ya no necesite hervir su agua. Se ha restablecido la presión en el sistema de agua; sin embargo, se requiere un muestreo bacteriológico para verificar la calidad del agua antes de levantar la advertencia de hervir el agua. Esperamos tener los resultados del muestreo bacteriológico dentro de las 48 horas.
