Louisa County Water Authority has an immediate opening for a full-time entry level water treatment operator trainee who will be trained in how to perform a variety of duties related to operational and maintenance support functions in the treatment of drinking water. This position offers a great opportunity to start a new career or further advance your career if you already hold a Waterworks Operator license.

The ideal candidate has an interest in science (chemistry, environmental science), an aptitude for learning, is mechanically inclined, can work independently as well as in a team environment, wants to give back to their community, and is looking for a quality career experience. Work is performed alongside highly proficient LCWA employees and under the immediate supervision of the Water Operations Manager. Salary starts at $34,278 a year for a trainee position with the opportunity for advancement. Salary is commensurate with license level, education, and training for experienced operators.

Minimum requirements: Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver's license, and have a high school diploma, or the equivalent. An associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field such as physical, biological, environmental, or chemical science is preferred. Prior water treatment experience IS a plus as well as general computer knowledge and communication skills, both verbal and written.

This position requires the following:

  • Working both indoors and outdoors, and potentially in inclement weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include holidays, weekends, and on-call rotations.
  • Must be able to successfully complete the online/self-study Water Treatment Plant Operation Specialist Certificate Program offered through the Office of Water Programs at Sacramento State University.
  • Ability and desire to obtain a Class 2 Waterworks Operator License within 18-24 months of hire date.
  • Potential to be assigned to multiple plants for cross training opportunities.
  • This position is considered essential personnel.

About us: Louisa County Water Authority has been proudly serving the community since its incorporation in 1968. Our goal is to provide top quality drinking water to every tap in our system around the clock and to exceed all regulatory mandates when returning effluent back to the environment. The Authority operates one water treatment plant, four well systems, one raw water system, and three wastewater treatment plants. We are continuing to expand and grow with an additional water treatment plant slated to come online in the near future. Location: Louisa County Water Authority is a rural public utility ideally located in the rolling Central Piedmont region near the heart of Virginia. Richmond, Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, and the Lake Anna area are all an easy drive from the Town of Louisa. The county encompasses 514 square miles which are predominantly farm and forest lands, mixed with business, industrial, and residential properties.
