LOUISA COUNTY WATER AUTHORITY – EASING OF MANDATORY WATER RESTRICTIONS
LOUISA, VIRGINIA – Effective today, Louisa County Water Authority is easing the mandatory water restrictions for all Louisa County Water Authority customers, with the following limitations:
1) WATERING of outside shrubbery, trees, lawns, grass, plants, home vegetable gardens, or any other vegetation is again allowed. Customers can resume watering with the following conditions: if your address is an even number, you can water on even days; if your address is an odd number, you can water on odd days. Any irrigation practices will be permitted before 7:00 am or after 8:00 pm.
2) WASHING of automobiles, trucks, trailers, or any other type of mobile equipment, is also once again allowed. If your address is an even number, you can wash on even days; if your address is an odd number, you can wash on odd days.
3) WASHING of sidewalks, streets, driveways, parking lots, service station aprons, exteriors of homes or apartments, commercial or industrial buildings or any other outdoor surface is allowed. If your address is an even number, you can wash on even days; if your address is an odd number, you can wash on odd days.
4) OPERATING of ornamental fountains or other structure making a similar use of water is now allowed.
5) FIRE HYDRANT USE for bulk water sales is allowed at approved hydrants and upon scheduling with Louisa County Water Authority staff (540-967-1122). Total daily limits will be applied and NO after hours bulk water sales will be permitted.
6) OPERATION of water-cooled comfort air conditioning that does not have water-conservation equipment in operation is allowed.
If conditions begin to deteriorate, emergency mandatory restrictions may be reimposed. Citizens are encouraged to monitor changing weather conditions and adjust water usage accordingly.
These allowances ease the mandatory water restrictions placed on Louisa County Water Authority customers on July 10, 2024 following months of dry conditions and below normal levels of the Northeast Creek Reservoir and the Green Springs Wells. Imposed restrictions on the citizens connected to the public water system aid in preventing shortages of safe potable drinking water and ensure water is available for human consumption and fire suppression to protect life and property.
“While we are easing mandatory restrictions implemented in July, the fact that water is a precious commodity and should always be treated as such has not changed,” said Judson Foster, LCWA Chairman. “We appreciate your continued conservation efforts to ensure our water resources are available for years to come.” ###
