Boil Water Advisory Issued for Louisa County Water Authority in Louisa County

The Virginia Department of Health and Blue Ridge Health District in conjunction with the Louisa County Water Authority Waterworks are advising residents served by the Louisa County Water Authority Northeast Creek System in Louisa County VA., to use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes as a safety precaution until further notice. This precaution is necessary due to repair activities at the water storage tank resulting in a loss of pressure in the water distribution system for about 1.5 hours on November 19, 2024. Pressure was restored in the water system around noon on November 19, 2024.
DO NOT DRINK TAP WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST
Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, beverage and food preparation, and making ice throughout Louisa County Water Authority Northeast Creek System until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Boiling is the preferred method to ensure that the tap water is safe to drink. Bring all tap water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one (1) minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water.
If you cannot boil your tap water:
- An alternative method of purification for residents that do not have gas or electricity available is to use liquid household bleach to disinfect water. The bleach product should be recently purchased, free of additives and scents, and should contain a hypochlorite solution of at least 5.25%. Public health officials recommend adding 8 drops of bleach (about ¼ teaspoon) to each gallon of water. The water should be stirred and allowed to stand for at least 30 minutes before use.
- Water purification tablets may also be used by following the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Drinking water may be available at other locations outside your community or neighborhood. If you seek water for human consumption at other locations, you must be certain that it is safe for use.
We will inform you when you no longer need to boil your water. Pressure has been restored in the water system, however bacteriological sampling is required to verify water quality prior to lifting the boil water advisory. We expect to have results from the bacteriological sampling within 48 hours.

NO BEBA AGUA DEL GRIFO SIN HERVIRLA PRIMERO.
Para beber, preparar bebidas y alimentos y hacer hielo, se debe hervir agua o utilizar agua embotellada en Louisa County Water Authority Northeast Creek System hasta nuevo aviso. La ebullición mata las bacterias y otros organismos en el agua. La ebullición es el método preferido para asegurar que el agua del grifo sea segura para beber. Lleve toda el agua del grifo a ebullición, deje que hierva durante un (1) minuto y deje que se enfríe antes de usarla, o use agua embotellada.
Si no puede hervir el agua del grifo:
